Plywood vs MDF vs solid wood for vanity carcasses
For a humid Dubai bathroom, a moisture resistant plywood carcass is usually the strongest and most stable choice. Standard MDF is smooth but less forgiving if water gets in, and solid wood can move too much unless the room is tightly climate controlled.
Vanity carcass materials compared
- 18mm moisture resistant plywood: best for humid bathrooms, holds screws well, less swelling when edge sealed.
- Marine grade or WBP plywood: extra water resistance for enclosed shower rooms and guest toilets.
- Moisture resistant MDF: smooth painted finish, lower cost, but it must have full edge banding and sealed cutouts.
- Solid wood: character and strength, but it expands and contracts in Dubai humidity. We rarely recommend it for a closed bathroom cabinet.
We cut most vanity carcasses from 18mm moisture resistant plywood with ABS edge banding and waterproof adhesive. The edges are sealed before painting or laminate finishing, because the exposed cut edge is where water usually enters.

Natural stone vs quartz vs porcelain vanity tops
If you want a stone top in Dubai, quartz is the easiest surface to maintain, natural stone gives you stronger veining, and porcelain is a lighter alternative. Your choice comes down to how much maintenance you want and how much visual movement you prefer.
Top material options
- Natural stone: marble and granite have unique veining and a cooler feel. They need sealing once or twice a year.
- Quartz: non porous, stain resistant and does not need sealing. Good for family bathrooms and makeup areas.
- Porcelain: thin, light and very stain resistant. Fewer deep veining options but a lower price point.
When choosing a natural stone vanity top in Dubai, customers often ask about marble, but we explain that marble can etch from acidic cleaners. A honed or leathered finish hides marks better than polished. Quartz is our default recommendation for rental properties and family homes because spilled soap, perfume and water will not soak in.

Moisture resistant bathroom vanity choices for UAE humidity
Dubai humidity and bathroom steam are hardest on the cabinet box, not the stone top. The safest vanity uses a sealed plywood carcass, full edge banding and a top with enough overhang to keep drips away from the doors.
In a Dubai Marina apartment, a compact bathroom often has less airflow, so the carcass needs better sealing than a large Abu Dhabi villa bathroom that dries faster. We still build both the same way: every cut edge, sink cutout and back panel is sealed before installation.
- Choose WBP or marine grade plywood instead of standard chipboard.
- Make sure the sink cutout is sealed, not just the visible edges.
- Use soft close hinges and drawer runners rated for humid rooms.
- Keep a 10 mm to 15 mm top overhang to stop water running down the front edge.
- If the vanity is floating, check that the wall fixings are rated for the stone weight.
Custom bathroom vanity costs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi
A made to measure vanity in Dubai usually falls between AED 6,000 and AED 8,000 all in, including the stone top, soft close hardware and installation. The exact price depends on the stone, size and number of basins.
A 1.2 metre single vanity with a quartz top, 18mm moisture resistant plywood carcass and two soft close drawers in Dubai Marina is around AED 6,200 to AED 6,800. A 1.8 metre double vanity with a natural stone top in Abu Dhabi is more likely AED 7,200 to AED 8,000. We quote the drawing, not a vague estimate, so the price you approve is the price you pay.

The 14 day made to measure build process
We build 1:1 to your approved drawing, so there are no guess cuts or gaps. The process works the same for a Dubai Marina apartment, a villa in Abu Dhabi and a townhouse anywhere in Dubai.
- Measure the bathroom and choose the carcass material, top stone, basin position and tap placement.
- Approve the detailed drawing and fixed quote. Before cutting, we request your 1:1 vanity drawing and quote.
- Cut and assemble the carcass in our Dubai workshop using moisture resistant panels and sealed edges.
- Cut and polish the stone top, including the sink and tap holes.
- Install the vanity, seal the joints and check the drawer alignment.

Frequently asked questions
Which bathroom vanity material is best for humid Dubai bathrooms?
Moisture resistant plywood is the best carcass material for most humid Dubai bathrooms. It holds screws well, swells less than standard MDF and can be fully edge banded. For tops, quartz is the lowest maintenance because it is non porous.
What is the difference between plywood and MDF for a bathroom vanity?
Plywood is made from layered wood veneers, which makes it stronger and more stable in damp conditions. MDF has a smoother surface but absorbs water quickly if the edge is not sealed. We prefer 18mm moisture resistant plywood for Dubai vanity carcasses.
How much does a custom bathroom vanity cost in Dubai?
Most made to measure vanities from our Dubai workshop range from AED 6,000 to AED 8,000 all in. A smaller single basin unit in Dubai Marina may sit near AED 6,000, while a 1.8 metre double vanity with a natural stone top in Abu Dhabi can reach AED 8,000.
How long does it take to build a made to measure vanity in Dubai?
We build to your approved drawing in about 14 days. This includes carcass assembly, stone cutting, painting and installation. Site access and stone availability can add a day or two in some Dubai and Abu Dhabi buildings.
Is quartz or natural stone better for a vanity top in the UAE?
Quartz is better if you want low maintenance and no sealing. Natural stone is better if you want movement and one-of-a-kind veining, but it needs regular sealing. Porcelain is a lighter, stain resistant alternative at a lower price point.
