Custom bathroom vanity units UAE: solid wood, built to fit

Solid wood is the one vanity carcass that keeps its shape through a UAE summer, and the premium over a standard moisture-resistant build is smaller than most people expect. Here is what we make, what it costs in dirhams, and why every unit is built 1:1 to the drawing you approve before we cut a panel.

Why solid wood behaves differently in a Dubai bathroom

Solid wood moves with the room instead of fighting it, which is exactly what a UAE bathroom asks for. Engineered boards stay flat until water reaches a cut edge, then they swell and never come back.

A vanity in a coastal apartment lives through two or three climate cycles a day. Humidity outside can sit above 80 percent in summer while the air conditioning pulls the same room below 40 percent, and it is over 45C on the balcony in August. A solid timber door takes in and releases a little moisture across the grain, so it stays flat and the joints stay tight. Moisture-resistant MDF has no grain to move with. Once water reaches the core, usually at the bottom rail or behind the basin, the board swells and the damage is permanent. Solid wood is not waterproof. It is recoverable, and that is the difference worth paying for. For the wider picture first, our bathroom vanity guides for Dubai and the UAE cover sizes, layouts and finishes.

Solid wood vs veneered MDF vs marine ply

In a bathroom the board face is rarely what fails. Hinge screw-hold and cut edges go first.

  • Moisture-resistant MDF: resin is mixed into the board, which makes it moisture resistant, not waterproof. Hinge screws loosen after two or three wet seasons and will not hold in the same hole again.
  • Veneered MDF: the same core with a timber face. It looks convincing on day one. Leave a bottom edge unsealed and the veneer lifts as the core swells behind it.
  • Marine ply: the glue line handles water well and it is a genuine upgrade on standard MDF. The face veneer can still lift where splashes sit behind the basin.
  • Solid wood: hinge screws bite into real timber and can be re-tightened or repositioned. Edges can be routed and resealed, and a door can be stripped and refinished in ten years rather than replaced.

Species we build in at our Jebel Ali workshop

We build in four species, and the choice changes both the price and how the unit copes with a wet room.

Teak

Teak carries natural oils and the tightest grain of the four, which makes it the safest choice for a bathroom a family uses hard. A teak bathroom vanity in Dubai holds up to splash zones, steam and pooled water better than anything else we work with.

Oak

Oak is hard, takes a marine lacquer beautifully and costs less than teak. It is the species most customers pick when they want a wooden bathroom vanity with visible grain.

Ash

Ash is pale, straight grained and moves less than oak in service. It is the best base for a matte painted finish when you want timber construction with a lighter look.

Walnut

Walnut is the most expensive and the most decorative. Sealed correctly it is stable, and it suits a master bathroom where the vanity is a focal point rather than a unit that gets soaked twice a day.

You can see finished vanity units and stone tops in our portfolio to judge the species and finishes in real rooms.

Sealing, finishing and daily care

A solid timber unit only stays stable if every face and every cut edge is sealed before it leaves the workshop. That is where cheap solid wood units fail, not in the timber itself.

Our standard finish is a marine-grade lacquer or a PU system, three coats minimum, with the inside faces and the underside of the carcass sealed as well as the outside. Hinge holes and handle fixings are sealed during assembly, and basin cut-outs are sealed on the day of installation.

What voids the finish warranty:

  • Standing water left on the top or around the basin seal
  • Bleach, hydrochloric acid, acetone and abrasive cream cleaners
  • Scouring pads and wire wool
  • A wet towel left against a door or side panel
  • Site cuts made after delivery that are not resealed

For daily care, wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and mild soap, then dry the surface. Check the silicone line around the basin once a year and re-seal it if it has lifted. Treated that way, a solid wood vanity in the UAE should still be in service after ten years, and it can be refinished rather than replaced.

What solid wood costs versus a standard carcass

A solid wood vanity unit in Dubai adds roughly AED 800 to AED 1,500 over a standard moisture-resistant build, depending on species and door profile. A complete unit with a stone top still lands inside our AED 6,000 to AED 8,000 all-in band.

Take a 1,000mm single-basin unit with a quartz top and soft-close doors. In a standard moisture-resistant carcass it comes in at around AED 6,000 to AED 6,500 all in. The same unit in solid teak, same top and same door profile, is about AED 7,500 all in. That extra AED 1,000 buys hinge screws that can be re-tightened, edges that can be resealed and a door that can be refinished instead of replaced.

Typical all-in prices for a 900mm to 1,200mm one-basin unit, delivered and installed:

  • Standard moisture-resistant carcass with stone top: AED 6,000 to AED 6,500
  • Marine ply carcass with stone top: AED 6,300 to AED 6,900
  • Solid oak or ash with stone top: AED 7,000 to AED 7,800
  • Solid teak with stone top: AED 7,500 to AED 8,000

Each price covers the carcass, doors, soft-close hinges, top, basin cut-out, delivery and installation. Taps, wastes, mirrors and tiling are not included. A double-basin unit, an unusual depth or a shaped top is quoted from the drawing. Installation in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates is charged the same as Dubai, with no travel surcharge.

Built 1:1 to your drawing in about 14 days, installed across the UAE

Nothing goes into production until you have approved a full-scale drawing of your vanity, and the workshop builds to that drawing rather than to the nearest standard size. For a bespoke wooden vanity in the UAE, that is the whole point.

  1. Send your sizes, a photo of the space, the water and waste positions and a rough sketch on WhatsApp to +971 54 483 3966.
  2. We prepare a drawing showing carcass material, timber species, door profile, top and finish.
  3. You approve the drawing and pay the deposit.
  4. The unit is built in the Jebel Ali workshop in about 14 days.
  5. We deliver and install anywhere in the UAE and seal any on-site cut the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Does solid wood warp in a Dubai bathroom?

Only when it is built from timber that was not dried and sealed properly, or when a cut edge is left open. Our carcasses are kiln dried and every face and edge is finished with a marine-grade lacquer or PU system. A properly built solid unit handles UAE humidity better than MDF, which swells at the edges and cannot recover.

Is solid wood worth it compared with MDF?

A solid wood build adds around AED 800 to AED 1,500 over a standard moisture-resistant carcass, so a complete unit with a stone top comes to roughly AED 7,000 to AED 8,000 all in. In return you get hinge screws that can be re-tightened and a door that can be refinished in ten years instead of replaced. In a lightly used guest bathroom MDF is a fair saving. In a family bathroom used twice a day, solid wood is the better buy.

Can you match my existing joinery?

Yes, within reason. Send photos of the existing doors, the profile and the finish, and we will match the species, colour and edge detail as closely as the age of your current joinery allows. We confirm it on the drawing you approve, so there is no surprise on installation day.

How long does a custom vanity unit take?

About 14 days from approved drawing to installed unit. That covers manufacturing in the Jebel Ali workshop plus delivery and installation. If you have a tight deadline, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will confirm what is realistic before you pay a deposit.

Do you install outside Dubai?

Yes. We manufacture in Jebel Ali, Dubai and install across all of the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Pricing is the same as a Dubai installation, with no travel surcharge.
